The treasure … of Jesus

Savior, the more that I see Your beauty, the more that I glimpse Your glory
My heart is captured by You, Jesus, You are my greatest treasure.

Nothing this world can offer could ever compare to You.
So, hear my heart’s cry and my prayer for this life.
Above all else, give me Yourself!  (Vicky Beeching)

I had a wonderful weekend with some of my family whom I rarely get to spend extended time enjoying. Because we live a thousand miles apart, it’s rare we have a few days of being together with no real “agenda.” In the last few years it’s been weddings, graduations, “retirement” or some other celebration (or sad goodbye) that brought us all together. Although I was able to enjoy the wonderful Women’s Conference they had at my sister’s church (The First Family of Columbia – where my daddy served for around 10 years), it was such a blessing to sit around the kitchen table talking and sharing with my mom and dad, sister and sister-in-love (aka sister-in-law). I really missed my brother, who had a little FOMO (“fear of missing out”), and his two cents’ worth because, in my opinion, his contribution to the conversations is always dead-on reality mixed with lots of humor and enough sarcasm to bring us all a chuckle and often full-on laughter! 🙂

Sitting at the kitchen table was a glimpse of heaven for me. Because my family is spread all over the world, it’s going to be few and far between (if ever) that we all will be able to get together …. just to be together. And I miss those times we had. I really miss it. My memories of sitting around singing, laughing, sharing stories are treasured.
I am blessed with a wonderful extended family, many of whom are passionate about Jesus.

…. which leads me to my thoughts today. I caught a glimpse of heaven in those moments because it is all about Jesus. Life, I mean. The laughter, the cries, the prayers, the thoughts – all about Him. In every memory, in every funny story, in every conflict, in every heartache: Jesus IS real and treasured above all. Since I just finished Mary Beth Chapman’s book, her hubby singer/songwriter SCC is on the brain. His music always inspires … and leads me to Jesus. I will close today with the lyrics of one of his songs. I am reveling a little today in my wonderful days spent with my treasured  family members, knowing that only one life will soon be past. But I’m also reveling in Jesus – only what’s done for Christ will last.
Jesus, You are my greatest Treasure! Above all else, give me You. Thank You for my family on earth. But thank You even more for eternal life in which we will worship You together forever.
A glimpse of glory this weekend – sharing with family, our lives and what Jesus has done for us.
Real glory – sitting at Your feet worshipping YOU forever!

What can I do, how can I live to show my world the treasure of Jesus?

What will it take, what could I give so they can know the treasure He is?
If I can sing let my songs be full of His glory. If I can speak let my words be full of His grace.
If I should live or die, let me be found pursuing this prize – the One that alone satisfies.
The treasure of Jesus.

Mel, I've always said, I'm so glad to be a Dawson! How lucky am I to be a part of such a great family legacy. I, too, love those times at your Mom and Dad's house. I love talking to your parents. I've always appreciated your perspective and that you're not afraid to speak your mind and tell the truth (good, bad or ugly). I missed Davo too..and he, us. He's very curious how the “fanny slapping” conversation started. 🙂 He said that is one of his favorite stories!
