God of Wonders – The Gospel in Creation

I realize that “the gospel” has become quite the catchphrase. Almost trendy. We hear and talk about how everything should be gospel centered. From churches to small groups to parenting, we are asking ourselves if the gospel is central. The difference in this trend and others that so often develop (i.e, reformed or progressive) is that “the gospel” is a biblical term – euangelion. The gospel is GOOD!

Really, it is. The gospel is the good message of salvation.
And it struck me as I was driving across the country the last two days (from a wonderful visit with my family in the NW) just how it’s pictured in and through creation. In the Old Testament we see the glory of God being proclaimed through His creation. In the New Testament we see the gospel of God being proclaimed through His creation…

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness, because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.” (Romans‬ ‭1)

“He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by Him – all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers – all things were created through Him and for Him. He Himself is before all things and all things are held together in Him.
For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in the Son and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross – through Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” (Colossians‬ ‭1)

I am so thankful to God for shouting to my soul, and sometimes whispering to my heart, His gospel of grace these last couple of days. Oh how I love the thought, that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth … and in that beginning the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh. And the Word made His dwelling among us. And even though Jesus left earth to return to Heaven, He gave us His Spirit who lives and moves among us. Who are we that God was mindful of us that we could know Him through the living Word? That the One Who created us is also the One Who, full of truth and grace, would love us all the way to the cross? That He would send His Spirit to be present in our daily lives…
Hallelujah! Preaching the gospel to myself every day never gets old!

And I will sing to the Maker of Heaven and Earth.
God, You reign forever and Your love will endure.
Faithful and True is the name of the Lord.
You are faithful, God
Faithful, forever You are faithful.
Shelter for the fragile soul.
You lift us up, You hold us all together.
You are faithful, God!
